I came across this company during our research into multitouch displays. Their approach to scalability and use of LCD displays vs. projection is intriguing. We have not used this provider but their technology seems to have some advantages over existing projection-based IR systems. For starters they state that their LCD displays can support 1920×1080 (true HD) resolution, which is a huge improvement over Surface and other solutions. And of course using LCD vs. projection has obvious maintenance benefits with regard to durability and lifespan.

At first pass their scalability model is also very compelling since their cells are designed to be connected together similar to a video wall running off of a single computer. I have not been able to confirm the price point per “cell” but I think they mention during this video $7,000, which is ok if it’s true. The responsiveness of the touch display during the videos appears very fast with little lag, I’d love to see one in person. As with many of these demonstration videos, the presenter shows how the system can be used to manipulate images and videos, which is sexy but not that compelling in practice. We are excited about multitouch displays not because they offer a fun new way to expand and contract images, which is just eye candy. We see this technology as a way for designers to create group interactive experiences that are Collective by design and allow multiple users the ability to participate together.

I’m working with them on a project and tested the unit they show in the Youtube video when I travelled to Helsinki to visit them. The system works very well and the available resolution really makes it much more useful than a projection system. $7k is the USD price for the smaller unit and I think the 46″ one is $11k USD.
